Same-day flower delivery: real cutoff times and what it costs

Short answer: same-day flowers are usually possible if you order by about 2 p.m. in the recipient’s time zone. Teleflora charges $2.99 extra for same-day on top of its regular fee [Teleflora]. FTD says most orders placed by 2 p.m. can arrive that day, with earlier cutoffs in some areas and during holidays or weekends [FTD].

Same-day delivery works because the big networks send your order to a local florist near the recipient, who makes and delivers it that afternoon. That’s also why the cutoff is in the recipient’s time zone, not yours.

Cutoffs and surcharges we could confirm

Teleflora2 p.m. Mon–Fri; 12 p.m. Sat–Sun$2.99 on top of the regular service fee[Teleflora]
FTD2 p.m. in most areas; earlier in some areas and on holidays or weekendsNot stated as a separate figure; delivery charges vary by date and start at $19.99[FTD]

We couldn’t confirm a same-day surcharge on other retailers’ public pages, so they’re not in the table. The SendFlowers.io fee medians we use elsewhere exclude same-day rush surcharges [SendFlowers.io], so treat any same-day price as “standard fee plus something.”

Is same-day worth it?

When the date matters (a birthday today, a funeral tomorrow morning, a hospital stay), yes. Teleflora’s $2.99 is a small price for certainty [Teleflora]. When it doesn’t, scheduling a day or two ahead usually gives you more delivery dates to compare, and more chance of a lower fee.

Things that quietly cost more

  • Memberships may not cover it. 1-800-Flowers’ Passport covers standard shipping on eligible weekday deliveries; faster delivery methods may carry charges [1-800-Flowers].
  • Free-shipping thresholds have fine print. UrbanStems’ free shipping applies over $140, and some partner items are excluded [UrbanStems].
  • Weekend orders cut off earlier. Teleflora’s weekend cutoff is two hours earlier than its weekday one [Teleflora].

Tips for a same-day order

  • Have the full address, a phone number for the recipient, and any building or room details ready.
  • Choose an arrangement the florist is likely to have in stock, like a mixed seasonal bouquet, and allow substitutions.
  • If it’s already past the cutoff, call a florist near the recipient directly. A local shop may still be able to help.
