Short answer: online, a dozen red roses started at $29.75 before delivery when we checked on Nov 3, 2026 [FTD]. Add a delivery fee and the cheapest delivered dozen came to about $50. A florist-arranged dozen in a vase ran closer to $90 delivered. Local florists averaged $93.07 for a dozen long-stem reds in FinanceBuzz’s 2026 survey [FinanceBuzz].
A dozen roses sounds like one product. It isn’t. The same twelve stems can arrive as tight buds in a cardboard box, or open and arranged in a glass vase by a florist down the street from the person you’re sending them to. Those are very different jobs, and the price follows the job more than the flowers.
So we looked up the cheapest dozen-red-roses option at five big online florists on the same day and added the delivery fee each one charges. Here is what we found.

* 1-800-Flowers, The Bouqs and Teleflora didn’t show a fee on the pages we could read, so we used each retailer’s median fee from the SendFlowers.io delivery fee report, which tracks thousands of live products [SendFlowers.io]. Treat those totals as close estimates. Tax is extra everywhere.
What explains a $40 spread for the “same” roses?
1. Box versus vase
The two cheapest options, FTD and ProFlowers, both list a One Dozen Red Rose Bouquet at $29.75 that ships in a gift box, with a glass vase for $34 [FTD] [ProFlowers]. 1-800-Flowers sells its dozen as “bouquet only” for $49.99 or with a red vase for $64.99 [1-800-Flowers]. The Bouqs ships its “Always” dozen in a box for $59 and notes the roses may still be in bud [The Bouqs Co.]. Teleflora’s Rose Classique ($69.99 for the standard size) is arranged in a vase and delivered by a local florist [Teleflora].
If the person receiving them is happy to trim stems and find a vase, a boxed dozen saves real money. If they’re in a hospital room or an office, the arranged version is worth the extra.
2. The delivery fee is a big share of a cheap bouquet
On the cheapest dozen we found, the $19.99 delivery charge was 67% of the price of the roses ($19.99 on $29.75) [FTD]. That ratio is why the sticker price is a poor guide. Across all bouquets it tracks, SendFlowers.io puts the median fee at $19.99, about 25% of the median $79.99 sticker price [SendFlowers.io]. Our delivery fees guide breaks this down by retailer.
3. Where you live
Local florist prices vary a lot by state. In FinanceBuzz’s 2026 survey of at least three florists per state, a dozen long-stem reds averaged $71.99 in Indiana and $126.65 in Hawaii, against a U.S. average of $93.07 [FinanceBuzz]. The same survey found the national average up $12.91, or 16%, since 2023 [FinanceBuzz].
4. Stem length, size and “deluxe” upgrades
Most product pages offer bigger versions. Teleflora’s Rose Classique goes from $69.99 (Standard) to $94.99 (Deluxe) and $114.99 (Premium) [Teleflora]. Add-ons push it further: Teleflora lists a single balloon at $5.99 and chocolates from $9.99 on the same page [Teleflora].
Per stem, what are you paying?
Dividing the flower price by twelve (before delivery): FTD and ProFlowers come to about $2.48 a stem, 1-800-Flowers about $4.17, The Bouqs about $4.92, and Teleflora about $5.83. The FinanceBuzz local florist average works out to about $7.76 a stem [FinanceBuzz]. Much of that gap likely pays for arranging, a vase, and hand delivery.
Is a dozen roses from a local florist worth more?
Sometimes. A local shop builds the arrangement fresh, delivers by hand, and can often fix a problem the same day. Teleflora says its service fee covers placing your order with a local florist who creates and delivers it [Teleflora], so you may end up paying for a local florist either way. If you know a good shop near the recipient, call and compare their delivered price with the table above. Our local vs online guide walks through the tradeoffs.
What about UrbanStems?
We left UrbanStems out of the table because it didn’t sell a plain dozen red roses when we checked. Its red roses collection listed 21 designed bouquets, and the cheapest red option, The Rudolph at $68, mixes roses with carnations and alstroemeria [UrbanStems]. It’s a fine gift, just not a like-for-like comparison.
How to pay less for a dozen roses
- Choose the boxed version if the recipient can arrange flowers themselves.
- Avoid the week of Valentine’s Day if the date is flexible. See when flowers cost the most.
- Compare the delivered total, not the sticker price. A $29.75 dozen and a $49.99 dozen are $20 apart before delivery and about $19 apart after.
- Consider a mixed bouquet. If roses aren’t essential, a seasonal mix can give you more variety for a similar price. Compare a few on the price check page.
